Seniors’ competition information 2016-17

Senior men (age 55 years and above) who are members of the Golf Club, are invited to participate in the full range of Seniors Competitions and Team matches upon payment of a one-off registration fee of £10.00, valid for the lifetime of the member. This fee identifies members who are entitled to enter any Seniors’ competition and compete for prizes, be considered for selection for Seniors Team matches, and to benefit from a subsidised green fee for Seniors Competitions.

Members are required to ensure that they have, and maintain, an active competition handicap.

Members are invited to indicate their intention to play in advance so that tee times can be allocated, and when necessary, teams (eg for a texas scramble) can be selected.

Members are requested to co-operate with this policy, both to encourage members to play with a variety of other members, and to minimise the amount of time waiting around to tee-off.

In order to make entry to competitions as easy as possible, there will be a number of ways in which members can sign-up to play:

  • by putting your name on the entry form that will be posted on the Seniors noticeboard or in the clubhouse, as early as possible before the deadline shown for each competition,
  • by contacting Roy Gallop on 01994 231665 or 07857 541835
  • or by email to

For each competition, a deadline will be set when the entry list will close, and tee times will then be posted as soon as possible, normally within two days. Entry to the competition may be possible after the starting times have been posted by contacting Roy Gallop, but members are asked to try to enter in advance if possible.

Members are invited to indicate if they have a preferred starting time. Tee times will be allocated to entrants as near as possible to these preferred times. Members are asked to minimise inconvenience to others by ensuring that they keep to their tee times. Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your allocated time.

Competition entry fees will usually be £2.00, and the subsidised green fee will be £3.00, and members are asked to ensure that these fees are paid before going to tee-off!

In the event that you are unable to play in a competition, please inform the Competition secretary, Roy Gallop as soon as possible.

Please note that it is NOT ACCEPTABLE not to turn up for a competition without notification. Members who do so are advised to note the Club policy and are expected to pay a fine of £2.00 to go to the Club’s Captain’s Charity.

The Seniors’ section of the Club website at: will be regularly updated and will contain information related to both completed and forthcoming competitions.

This will be an 18 hole, full handicap, stableford League competition and will be the main Seniors’ competition for the summer season. It will be played over a period of 10 Tuesday mornings throughout the summer, starting on Tuesday 26th April.

After each Tuesday League match, the best NINE stableford scores or joint scores will be identified. 10pts will be awarded for the best score (or scores) to 2pts for the ninth best score. All other competitors will be awarded 1 pt each.

At the conclusion of all the League matches, a maximum of the EIGHT best scores for each competitor will be totalled to determine the overall winner and runner-up of the Dawn Patrol League.

The overall winner and runner-up will receive prizes at the end of the season.

In addition, each Tuesday the League is played, prizes will be awarded in two handicap categories, 18 and below and 19 and above.

A prize will also be awarded to anyone scoring a “2” on any hole, or indeed a hole-in-one!
