DERLLYS COURT LADIES SECTION
Our flourishing Ladies Section was established in 2008 by a small number of enthusiasts and now has over 60 members of all ages and abilities. We are affiliated to Golf Union of Wales (GUW), West Wales Ladies Golf Association (WWLGA) and Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire Ladies Golf Association (C&PLGA)
Derllys Court is a family run club with a level of hospitality second to none. There is a great camaraderie amongst the ladies with plenty of activity both on and off the course. New members are warmly welcomed and quickly find a level of golf and socialising to meet their needs.
Ladies are required to submit 3 cards of 18 holes to obtain their first handicap. From 2016 the maximum club handicap is 54. Competition handicaps start at 36.
We are very fortunate to have PGA professional Robert Ryder based at the club offering a range a coaching. There is a covered teaching area, practice bays and a putting and chipping green.
Funding from Golf Development Wales enables us to offer free beginners’ lessons. A continuation class is then offered for a small fee.
Continuous coaching for lady members is offered throughout the year, for intermediate and advanced players
One to one coaching is also available all year round including on-course playing lessons.
Nearly all our members have been introduced to golf through Rob’s coaching programmes. Yet within this relatively short time a number of ladies have reached a standard enabling us to be competititive in National events and competitions including Daily Mail, Ping and The National Playing fields.
We joined the C&P league in 2014, winning Division 2 in 2016 and now looking forward to competing in Division 1.
The Ladies 9 hole summer league is a Stableford competition and starts on the first Tuesday in April and runs to the second week in September, tees available from 4.00 – 6.00p.m. We play alternate 9 holes each week and ladies who are available to play earlier; can choose to play 18 holes.
There are also annual knockout competitions for singles, pairs, mixed and singles scratch with the finals being played on Finals’ Day, at the end of September, when there is also a club stableford competition followed by refreshments and presentations.
Derllys is a very integrated club and we enjoy excellent relationships with the other sections. On Captain’s Day there is a competition open to all and on Lady Captain’s day each lady has a team of 3 inviting guests and/or members from other club sections. Presentations, refreshments and entertainment follow the golf making these occasions great fun and they are always very well supported.
There are annual competitions: Ladies v Seniors, and LSD Cup, a team event comprising a lady, Senior and Dyfed league player – again these are social as well as sporting occasions.
The in-coming Lady captain arranges an Away day in May and we end the season in October with a ‘fun’ 9-hole competition followed by a meal out together.
There is no official competition through the winter months but many ladies play golf throughout the year. There is a very efficient email system that informs members of events at the club and through social networking, particularly on Whatsapp, small groups meet regularly to play either 9 or 18 holes.
During the season, groups of ladies attend many Open Days locally and as far away as the Cardiff area, with individual members taking responsibility for planning these visits.
The younger and more adventurous members usually have a golf trip abroad. ‘The Derllys Ladies On tour’ certainly knows how to have a good time!
Every year the captains nominate their charities and the club takes great pride in the amazing contributions that have been presented to both national and local charities. There are regular raffles and auctions at all events, and there is a charity evening held during November that includes the hamper raffle.
New members are always assured of a warm welcome. Whatever standard and how often you may wish to play there will always be opportunities to suit your needs.
