First of all, a warm welcome to the 2011 season. The club has increased its membership and a more comprehensive programme has been arranged. As the new season is almost upon us, members will be interested in being made aware of the events that occurred towards the end of the previous golfing year as well as some details of the forthcoming programme.
CAPTAIN’S CHANGEOVER DAY – Saturday 2nd April
New season’s Captains are: Mal Evans (Club), Ann Thomas (Ladies), Reg Powell (Seniors), Michael Williams (Juniors) & Ben Creamer (Dyfed League). It is hoped that a large number of members will enter the Texas Scramble competition, which will be followed by a buffet and presentations, with the retiring Captains giving their reports and members being introduced to their new officers.
OPEN DAYS
Open days in other clubs will be held throughout the summer. All members with active handicaps are eligible to play. More information can be found in the clubhouse.
Memorial Golf Day
The course will be closed on Sunday 3rd April 8am-11am for a competition being played in memory of the late Alun Davies. Alun from Pontardulais was a keen sportsman and an accomplished golfer who will be sadly missed by all.
DYFED LEAGUE
Having gained promotion to the 3rd division, the team retained its status during the past season and deserves our congratulations on a consistent and worthy performance. In the Jeff Harries Bowl Knockout Competition our team acquitted itself very well, losing to Carmarthen on neutral ground at Ashburnham in the final round played in September.
League Captain Ben Creamer invites interested members to come along and play in the 2 competitions at the end of March with the view to establishing a good player base for the team. Opponents this year are: Aberystwyth, Ashburnham, Cardigan, St. David’s and Trefloyne. We wish the team every success. County cards will be available for purchase at the beginning of April. This entitles holders to play at a large number of Welsh clubs at a greatly reduced rate.
DGU Mixed Foursomes – Sunday 8th May
We are proud to host this event for the first time and we hope that there will be a good number of entries from our members.
KNOCKOUT CUP COMPETITIONS
Lists are now being displayed for the Singles (won last year by Ben Creamer) and Pairs (won last year by Richard Thomas & Lee Lewis). Would all competitors append names at their earliest convenience. Closing date Sunday 27th March.
New cups being introduced this year are: Scratch Knockout, Seniors Singles & Pairs. Should anyone wish to sponsor the Scratch trophy, please contact the club within the next few months.
LADIES
Summer league commences Tuesday 5th April; all lady members are welcome to participate. Friendly fixtures are currently being organised, lists including dates will be available in due course.
The annual Ladies Open Day has been arranged for Friday 24th June.
JUNIORS
James Bowen junior organiser will be available to discuss with juniors/parents wishing to take part in the many interesting activities of this important section.
Junior Wales Open 2011 – Any junior members interested in this prestigious competition can register online (www.walesopen.com) before Sunday 3rd April.
SENIORS
All those interested are asked to ascertain details from the notice board or the seniors section of the club website. The Captain Reg Powell will be available to receive and advise new members.
COACHING

HANDICAPPING
Members are advised to consult the notice board regarding handicap regulations etc owing to the fact that there have been specific changes to qualifying and non qualifying events.
DRESS CODE
Once again we have to remind members that all clubs have a duty to demand an acceptable dress code and although we do not have a major problem at Derllys, it is hoped that this gentle reminder will serve to retain our established standards.
MEMBERS OUTING
Would you like to spend the day golfing at Tawe Vale (INCO), Swansea on Friday 8th April? If so, please sign up with £35 ASAP, spaces are limited to 40. Price includes coach; coffee & bacon roll on arrival, 18 holes of golf, 2 course meal and prizes.
